Look beyond the insulation.
Gaps around an attic hatch, wiring and other ceiling penetrations can allow air movement. Ask about appropriate air sealing before new insulation is installed.
Insulation and air sealing do different jobs
Insulation slows heat transfer. Air sealing addresses unwanted air movement through gaps. An attic assessment can consider both, together with ventilation and moisture conditions.
Include the hatch in the conversation
Ask whether the hatch needs insulation, weatherstripping or access improvements. Tell the assessor about condensation, staining or drafts you have noticed.
Leave sensitive areas to the assessor
Chimneys, electrical fittings and ventilation equipment need appropriate materials and clearances. Do not seal or cover these as a shortcut.
