Make the most of the insulation you already have.
A top-up may be suitable when existing insulation is dry, in good condition and simply too thin or uneven. An assessment should come before adding material.
When a top-up may make sense
Tell the assessor if rooms feel unevenly heated, your attic insulation looks patchy, or a previous renovation disturbed it. These observations help define the assessment; they do not establish the cause on their own.
What to check first
- Existing insulation type and condition.
- Signs of damp, roof leaks or pest activity.
- Safe access, ventilation paths and clearances.
- Air leakage and hatch insulation.
Ask for a written scope showing preparation, material, proposed depth or thermal performance, and how ventilation will be protected.
